HEALTH FACILITY WORKER
Distinguishing Features of the Class: This work involves responsibility for the regular and correct performance of tasks assigned, including the performance of such indirect or non-nursing services for residents of the Health Facility as are not required to be performed by a Licensed Practical Nurse or a Registered Professional Nurse. Duties require some knowledge of cleaning and housekeeping tasks and laundry machines and appliances, as well as familiarity with the uses of laundry materials and equipment. Work is performed under general supervision of the Housekeeper, and, for the non-nursing services, by the Registered Professional Nurse in charge. The work is performed according to well-established procedures and the finished product is carefully examined for adherence to work standards. Does related work as required.
Typical Work Activities:
- Washes walls, woodwork, bathroom fixtures and appliances, and windows;
- Sweeps, mops and waxes floors;
- Vacuums floors and carpets;
- Dusts furniture, sills, fixtures, and other objects;
- Cleans and polishes furniture and metal fixtures;
- Gathers and disposes of refuse;
- Performs a variety of cleaning tasks as needed;
- Folds, counts, weighs and sorts linen, towels, gowns and clothing and arranges for their proper distribution;
- Operates laundry equipment;
- Keeps record of weight of each item;
- Transports soiled and clean laundry;
- Assists the resident in non-direct nursing related care;
- Making and cleaning beds;
- Passing of ice water;
- Assists in feeding of residents;
- Distributes cleaning and routine nursing supplies;
- Assists in transporting residents to other activities such as church services, dining room services, etc., within the facility;
- Assists in the labeling and storing of residents’ clothes and valuables;
- Assists in moving furniture, maintains residents’ rooms as required.
Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:
- Some knowledge of laundry methods and operation such as washing and folding of articles by hand or machine;
- Some knowledge of the use of commercial laundry cleaning appliances and materials;
- Skill in the performance of uncomplicated laundry tasks;
- Working knowledge of cleaning and housekeeping methods, materials and equipment;
- Ability to understand and follow uncomplicated or non-technical oral and written directions;
- Ability to get along well with others and to obtain cooperation of residents;
- Thoroughness; strength and physical stamina;
- Neatness and good appearance;
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
